GOLF AT CHARLTON SCHOOL! TIGER WOODS BEWARE!
In line with our successful enrichment programme (rowing, horse-riding, dance productions etc.) we are taking another innovative step forward by introducing golf to Charlton School. We are very fortunate to engage the services of Gary Brett who is the resident professional at the Eltham Warren Golf club and a former touring pro. Gary has worked in a number of mainstream primary schools but his venture into a unique school such as ours probably represents a first. Well done Charlton!
The activity of golf offers a number of experiences that our students can benefit from: improving hand/eye coordination, experimenting with different techniques, handling equipment, encouraging patience and practice to gain an end result etc., as well as teaching students to deal with their frustrations!
Gary has developed a range of equipment to support his teaching, and although the end result of using it might seem, and should be, fun, the experiences are designed to form a successful swing.
The golf programme is indebted to Anita Sawyer for building its many aspects into the school’s assessment system and this should further encourage students to want to get their hands on those clubs.
So come on Charlton students, with practice and determination you might be the next Michelle Wie ((one of the great woman players) or Tiger Woods.
