One of the most exciting events in school this year was a visit by Tom Avery, the artic explorer who recreated the disputed 1909 Artic expedition by Robert Peary. It took 37 days, traveling in similar style with Canadian Inuit dogs and custom built wooden sledges.

Performance at Greenwich Dance Agency
Post 16 students came together from both sites and collaborated with dance students from the Laban Centre,� London to choreograph a dance piece using the theme of ‘Connections’. This was performed at Greenwich Dance Agency on the evening of 10th March 2006.
Dramarama
Pupils from C5 were joined this year by a number of pupils from the Royal Hill site for integrated drama and poetry activities. All this activity developed from the successful participation of a group of Charlton School teenagers in the one-off event, sponsored by the BBC, of the Shakespeare Schools Festival ‘One Night of Shakespeare’.
Dance Lessons Update
All KS3 students combine to work on new theme each term within the disciplines of Dance, Music and Art. Autumn term we focused on ‘Machines’, Spring term ‘Rock ‘n Roll’ and this term we are exploring the circus/carnival.
Winners of the Best Kept Garden Award
This year we were the proud winners of the ‘Queen Elizabeth Cup’ for the Best Kept Garden. We opened up in celebration of the achievements our gardens to many visitors including members from the London Children’s Flower Society, the Mayor of Greenwich and Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Cyril Young stood in for Their Royal Highnesses the Count and countess of Wessex.
Visits to Barclays
Barclays Capital, major sponsors of Charlton School, have organised a series of visits for our students to their offices in Canary Wharf. Linking in with work related learning, topics of the visits have included the trading floor, audio visual, events and advertising and press relations. The current series of visits will finish on December 2nd and recommence in February 2006.
Jamie Cullum at the Royal Albert Hall
On Tuesday 15th of November, twenty students went on a very special trip to the Royal Albert Hall. They saw Jamie Cullum’s concert for young audiences which was part of the London Jazz Festival.
Making Movies with Macs
Students are learning to use new software with the introduction of apple mac computers in school. Short films are being made with imovie and songs are being produced with garageband. Watch this space for some examples of our work.
Fruit Stall
Twice a week fruit is delivered to school and students choose a piece for their morning break. In the video you can see Georgina and Kirsty working hard during healthy options to prepare the fruit for everyone to enjoy.
